Chopin - Scherzo Op 20 in B Minor - excerpt arranged for Intermediate piano
Chopin’s dark, dramatic B minor Scherzo, full of suspense and wild agitation, has a contrasting slower middle section with a lyrical quotation from the Polish carol-lullaby "Lulajże Jezuniu" (Hush Little Jesus). It is this middle section of the Scherzo that has been adapted in this arrangement for Intermediate pianists.
The key has been raised a half step to C major from the original key, but the dynamics, articulation and pedalling remain virtually unaltered. Despite a certain amount of simplification, the essential character of the music still remains.
The music of Chopin is often beyond the reach of many pianists, especially during their initial years of study. This new arrangement offers piano students a chance to enjoy playing one of Chopin’s finest lyrical passages without the technical challenges of the original work. With a performance time of just under three minutes, this arrangement would be ideal for a school recital concert program.
