Erik Satie - Trois Gymnopédies for Piano Duet
In these new arrangements for piano duet the melodies are played by both hands of the Primo performer; the left hand in the original register and the right hand playing one octave higher. The bass notes and chords are played by the Secondo performer along with the sustain pedal. Fingerings have been left to each performer to add according to their own personal preference.
The composer's original autographed manuscripts have been used as the initial source material, along with the very first printed editions published in 1888 and 1895. Obvious errors in the first editions have been corrected and Satie's unconventional preference for distributing the notes of chords across both staves has been ignored in favour of grouping the notes together to facilitate chord recognition and performance.
Erik Satie's Gymnopédies are popular all around the world and are perfect for recitals or school concerts. Total performance time of all three duets is approximately 10 minutes.
